LinguasOS: gnu/linux for translatorsbaldwinsoftware home | wiki | blog | listserv ![]() LinguasOS Home | Getting started | Harddrive instalation | After install | Package list THE CURRENT LINGUASOS.ORG SITE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ME OR THE LINGUAS OS PROJECTI allowed the domain to lapse, and someone purchased it and copied material from the old site and posted, and they are claiming copyrights to that material. They are offering no Free downloads, and there is nothing useful on their site. I wish they would contact me. The last release, Linguas OS 1.3 was launched in 2008! Currently, Linguas OS development has been at a standstill for well over a year. If someone legitimately takes up development thereof and informs me, I will post relevant information here, and to the baldwinsoftware.com blog. If you are a translator looking to try GNU/Linux, I highly recommend you join the The Linux for Translators Yahoo! Group, in addition to/or instead of LinguasOs, you may try TuxTrans, another gnu/linux system for translators, based on Ubuntu Linux. If you don't have the means of downloading and burning a DVD, TuxTrans also offers a smaller, CDRom-sized iso file, called TuxTrans Essentials, which can be found on the TuxTrans downloads page. I may resurrect this project shortly, but based on debian gnu/linux or gnewsense, in the future. If so, I'll likely be changing the name. Download LinguasOS
LinguasOS Documentation
I have moved the former LinguasOS wiki materials here to my site on baldwinsoftware.com, because, I do still consider it a distinct possiblity that I will pick this project up again. I won't however, be likely to continue from where I left off, as a PCLinuxOS based project, but, rather, am far more likely to start from scratch, taking Debian as the basis for future development, since that is the distro I now currently use, and don't expect to be changing any time in the near future. All the same, you are more than welcome to download the currently available LinguasOS and experiment with it. It is a useful means of trying some of the software available for translators, even though what is on the current disk is now as much as two years out of date. Many of the programs on the disc have seen considerable developmental advances since LinguasOS was last released.
